PUTS ON A DAMNED GOOD SHOW

Nobody is claiming he still has that gorgeous voice from the 70s. But he put on a hell of a show. Hearing him sing Vincent, American Pie, and And I Love You So was such a treat. The country and rock songs were unexpected and so much fun. He has a beautiful rapport with the audience and tells amazing stories about his career. Every single musician in his band is top notch. I will see him again if/when he returns.

GREAT SHOW

Saw Don McLean last night and it was a great show. Yes his voice isn’t what it was in his early years but he makes up for it in his enthusiasm and great connection with his audience. He sings a great song then tells you a very interesting short story about hanging out with Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison in Nashville. He had very kind and heartfelt words about Elvis on more than one occasion. When he ended with America Pie he invited the Audience to sing it with him (his words) and at the end said you want to sing more and everyone sang the first verse again. Great ending and you could tell he really enjoys himself in that moment. While driving home it felt like you just spent 2 hours with an old friend!! Definitely going to see him again when he returns. The venue was a great cozy setting as well. First time there but not my last.

BYE BYE ME AMERICAN PIE

Had never seen Don McLean live..his band and his guitar playing were Great...but the vocal was really dissapointing..it made you want to sing along or turn your phones music on...I loved Firefall...the group is reconfigued...I missed Rick Roberts lead vocals..but the group played great music..superior guitar ...

THE LEGEND HAS (JUST) ENOUGH TO CARRY HIM

I saw Don McLean’s only Melbourne show in Australia last night & mostly agree with all reviews here (hence not 1 or 5 but 2.5/3.0 stars): charming man, great songwriter, fascinating stories & warm-toned voice; but also at times the most out-of-tune concert hall singing I’ve ever heard; and for a 50th year anniversary tour of American Pie I wish he played more of his own beautiful songs, rather than a half-dozen Elvis & other covers fitting for a corner pub - given his legendary status and the 50s/60s American music theme of his life’s work, I guess he’s the one person who can pull that off. Overall I think it’s too easy to be negative & say for an AU$100 show Don’s show was still quite special and will be memorable.

NASHVILLE, INDIANA

Attended this pitiful show in Nashville, Indiana, last night, with my wife. Don McLean seemed disconnected with the audience, disdainful of the venue, did a very fast show and just disappeared immediately after the only decent rendition: American Pie. We know that we should not expect renditions like when he was young, back in the 1970's However, he seemed to be totally out of breath while singing and, honestly, may be a little drunk. I'm sorry to say that my expectations (I drove all the way from Florida to Indiana for this event) and now I think I should have stayed home and save the memories. Time for Don to hang his hat.

DON MCLEAN CONCERT 6/18/22

I love Don McLean, but his concert last night was god awful. A good backing band, but his vocals were terrible, couldn’t hit a single note, flat, and talked his way through many of his greatest songs. Sounded drunk, but think he is sadly, well past his ability to sing. Time to hang it up, permanently.

REFUND. PLEASE

Don McLean was simply awful. Off-key and flat like I've never heard a professional musician before. On one song I thought he was singing a different song than he was playing. Nails on a chalkboard would have been more in tune.

TIME TO STOP.

Saw him last night in Cardiff, Wales and was so disappointed. His singing was flat for the most of the performance and unfortunately many people left. It’s such a shame and it’s sad because of the legend that he once. I sing and play his songs on guitar and love them but if ever there was a time to stop then it’s definitely now. His band were brilliant though. Goodness knows what they think of it. As much as I respect him for what he has given us I’m sorry to say that he’s just not able to sing them anymore. Such a shame.

MAKE IT STOP!

Saw Don McLean in Cardiff on the weekend and have never been so disappointed in an artist that I loved when growing up. He couldn’t hit a single note and when he sang crying that’s exactly what I felt like doing. We walked out halfway through, it was simply that bad. Time to hang it up Don, you just don’t have it anymore.

THE NIGHT THE MUSIC DIED

Saw Don McLean at the opening concert of the 50th Anniversary of American Pie tour. Saw him in Croydon 35 years ago. Brilliant. The concert in Cardiff a couple of weeks back was dreadful The man didn't hit a single note. Flat, toneless, embarrassing. Trying to get my money back. Vincent Van Gough committed suicide then Don murdered him.

REALLY POOR PERFORMANCE

Had been looking forward to this for months but it was extremely disappointing. Backing group were great but Don was consistently out of tune and has totally lost his old magic. After the vocals for Vincent was ‘murdered’ we left and couldn’t bear to hear any more. Sorry but this was a very poor showing.

DISAPPOINTED

Always loved his songs and their melodic flow that were so easy to sing with, but didn't hear that tonight. Sound was way too loud for the venue size. We had to move to the back from front balcony seats. No songs were sung as recorded when they were hits. Couldn't sing along to them. I wish he kept the integrity of the original recordings instead of trying to turn soft ballads into harder rock pieces. Disappointing.
